Cutting/ grinding off molded plastic frets & replacing with metal fret wire?

@EDW and @70sSanO the “going fretless ” idea is something I’ve pondered for my Harmony. It should be easy with the screwed in fretboard, I won’t grind them but rather make a thin board and swap it out, I could always swap it back if I don’t like it.

Edit:?i could retune it to an open tuning and make it a slide uke lol. I might actually try this, 1/8” modeling plywood would be fine for a trial, less work than resawing, planing and sanding.

At that time, I'll order a new wood fretboard with professionally- installed frets.

EBay and Amazon offer inexpensive versions; delivery time varies.

A slightly different scale length will need shifting the nut, saddle slot, or bridge.

An over wide fretboard can be gently narrowed using a belt sander (aluminum oxide belt).

Cheers.
