Hello and welcome to Season of the Ukulele 625!

Back before I actually participated in the Seasons, I lurked a lot. When I was working my courage up to participate, there was a season with birds as the theme. I chose a song, practiced it, but just didn’t get the nerve up to post a video.

I think birds are nice, and I sort of birdwatch, just enough to identify the birds I see around me, so I’d like to do another Season of birds.

Any song in which the lyrics or the name of the band mentions a bird is acceptable (this can be the word “bird” or “birds” or specific species such as crow or bluebird or what have you).

Original songs are welcome and encouraged, with birds in the lyrics or title.

If you’ve never participated in the Seasons of the Ukulele, feel free to make a video of whatever song you want to, whether it fits the theme or not.

I ask everyone to limit their submissions to a total of three for the week. An elderly family member broke her hip and I’ve been busier than usual helping her and her husband, and this week will be more if the same.

The contest starts Sunday February 4 at 12:00 a.m. (Hawaiian time) and ends Sunday February 11 at 11:59 p.m. (Hawaiian time).

Thanks for mentioning Jerry Reed’s tune. I’d been wracking my little brain trying to recall its title (d’oh!)

Just to be clear... not just the word “bird”, but specific species'
Does that mean it has to include a species name, or is just the word bird enough?
word... word...bird is the word....

Allow me to share a bird experience I'll fondly remember...

Scottish song call the Twa Corbies
noun SCOTTISH
plural noun: corbies
a raven, crow, or rook.

As I was walking all alane,
I heard twa corbies making a mane;
The tane unto the t'other say,
‘Where sall we gang and dine to-day?’
‘In behint yon auld fail dyke,
I wot there lies a new slain knight;
And naebody kens that he lies there,
But his hawk, his hound, and lady fair.
‘His hound is to the hunting gane,
His hawk to fetch the wild-fowl hame,
His lady's taen another mate,
So we may mak our dinner sweet.
‘Ye'll sit on his white hause-bane,
And I'll pike out his bonny blue een;
Wi ae lock o his gowden hair
We'll theek our nest when it grows bare.
‘Mony a one for him makes mane,
But nane sall ken where he is gane;
Oer his white banes, when they are bare,
The wind sall blaw for evermair.

I've not had a problem with posting songs by this band for a while now, may be because of my location, I don't know.
Please don't quote me to YT though :)
I wasn't able to post a song from "this band" from France.

Aah a song by Eels. One of my favorite bands 👍

Either the mention of the generic word “bird” or “ birds” or the mention of specific species will work.

Alright, the playlist is up at the end of the first post! Also I’ve edited the theme description for (I hope) clarity.
